It is the intention of the City of Helsingborg to further develop its tourist and day visitor economy. In order to help to do that, the City wishes to establish one or more destination visitor attractions to enhance Helsingborg’s attraction to visitors.
It is intended that these will become a distinctive addition to the tourist offer, encouraging larger numbers of visitors, both tourists and residents of the region, to spend time and money in Helsingborg. The attractions that the city seeks are those that may have year round appeal, that are of international standard and which have particular appeal to families (especially to children).
In summer 2012, the Kommun ran a competitive tender to appoint a suitably experienced external consultancy to provide recommendations for the type of attraction facility that is best suited for Helsingborg. Petersham Group were appointed to fulfill this role.
Taking the research that had already been carried out by the Kommun as a starting point, Petersham Group carried out an independent consultancy project to advise Helsingborg Kommun as to what, in our opinion, would be the type (or types) of destination visitor attraction that would be most suitable for the city.
This exercise investigated and commented on the strengths and weaknesses of the various locations available. It also reviewed the current and future tourist offer made by the city and identified ways in which this could be developed and improved.
The project was completed in early October 2012 and preparations are being made for the next phase, that of introducing national and international developer / operators of suitable attractions to Helsingborg.
