Project Description

Kentisbury Grange, a historic property located in North Devon, was operated for many years as a holiday park with static and touring vans. Several years on from buying the property and business, the Shindler Family realised that it was unlikely to prove viable in the longer term without major reinvestment in these facilities and wished to investigate alternative and more sustainable uses for the estate. Petersham Group were engaged to review the business and work with the Shindlers to look at the options. 

Working together with the Shindlers and our nominated designer, Creative Solutions, we identified the unique appeal of Kentisbury Grange as being primarily its Victorian heritage and it is that aspect that was brought out in subsequent design proposals that we oversaw and the master plan created.

Removal of the caravan facilities and the static caravans and sensitive landscaping has created a more sympathetic backdrop for the Grange itself that showcases the property, which has itself become a successful hotel with 11 luxurious rooms. The old Coach House meanwhile has been converted into an acclaimed restaurant and venue for weddings and other functions. Instead of decaying static caravans, a number of self-catered lakeside lodges have been installed. Taken together, the Grange has now found its place in the market and has a bright future.
